I got

nothing. Seriously I got nothing. I had grand hopes to sew and craft this weekend and catch up on quilt blocks for my swap group. Instead I threw up on the Sea Dragon ride at Cliff's (yep - the ride was closed for about 10 minutes while they cleaned up after me) and spent almost all day sleeping yesterday (other than the couple hours I was church). Wow....what an exciting weekend.
Since I got nothing for you - please go check out this blog. It will seriously make you laugh so hard you just might pee in your pants.

Hooray for Fall!!

FINALLY...It's season premiere time for my favorite shows:) Let's see if you can spot a trend. This week I will be watching the premieres of the following:
CSI
CSI: New York
CSI: Miami
NCIS
and my newest love...NCIS: Los Angeles

Chris O'Donnell is darling and LL Cool J can seriously kick some butt:) And I love that the principal from Kindergarten Cop is in it too.

What shows can't you live without? I'm looking to add a few more to my lineup:)

Smile

Things that have brought a smile to my face today....

My sweet angel Miss S and the ginormous zucchini we picked out of the garden...

My new CD...

And this scripture...

"Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope through the power of the Holy Ghost."
Romans 15:13

What has made you smile today?

I Am An Idiot

But first....let me show you these cute stamps I bought at Michael's last night...

Here's the idiot part....I went to Michael's to buy frames, which I did - four very cool frames for prints I recently bought from Creative Kismet and Greenbean Baby....guess where those four frames are? Sitting at the register at Michael's cause I forgot to get them out of the cart when we left. AND here's another idiot part - I am now the proud owner of Beatles Rockband for the Xbox 360....but guess what? I don't have an Xbox 360....I was supposed to get it for the Playstation 3. GGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRR!!! Now all my errand running last night to give me some free time today has to be repeated. I fricken hate when I do stuff like this.

Get Out Your Wallet

Cause it's Walk-A-Thon time at Miss S's elementary school. This is her school's major fundraiser for the year and it's the only one I personally promote big time. And that's because all the money raised goes directly to the school:) Miss S absolutely loves the walk a thon and can't wait to walk next week!! And I've made it super easy for you to donate. Simply click this little old button below and away you go! Donate as much or as little as you would like:) The deadline for all donations is October 7, 2009.

And Miss S says "THANK YOU!!!"

Our Mini Stay-cation Part Two

On Labor Day Miss S and I left Hubby at home to play World of Warcraft all day while we went to Cliff's Amusement Park in town. Miss S had won 4 free passes (at normally $25 a pop we were really excited about that!) so we used two of them and spent probably 6 hours there riding rides, eating yummy snacks and playing in the water monkeys play area. I was a trooper and took some dramamine so I could ride all the crazy rides with Miss S. It was an awesome day - hot, but not too hot, the park was busy but the lines were short, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was the perfect end to our mini stay-cation!

Our Mini Stay-cation Part One

Over the Labor Day weekend we had a little vacation here at home....did some fun stuff that we never have time to do....and in general enjoyed just hanging out together. Miss S and I went bowling on Saturday cause did you know Sept 5 was National Bowling Day?? Really? You didn't know that? I found coupons online for a free game to celebrate National Bowling Day so off we went. We played horribly... but had fun which is really all that matters:)

9/11 Thoughts on 9/12

Holy cripes this picture is blurry. I really wanted to post yesterday but the day just got away from me and I couldn't get my thoughts organized to decide what I wanted to say. I knew I wanted to post about this picture - it's of me and my dad in NYC in the fall of 1991 - almost ten years to the day prior to 9/11....with the beautiful twin towers in the background. A gaping hole now sits where those beautiful buildings used to be....so many lives and families and relationships now dead and gone. It makes me still so sad to think about it. It made me even sadder that I was the only person I saw yesterday wearing any sort of patriotic tshirt. A country in turmoil since that day....sending sons and husbands, fathers and brothers off to war....it makes me so so sad. A lofty goal....ridding the world of terrorism....bringing some much needed peace. A goal that may or may not be realized in my lifetime or even in Miss S's lifetime. So what to do? For me it's to continue on in my own little way making my own little contribution to bringing love and happiness to those around me with a smile, with a kind word...and those far away with projects like IBOL and Craft Hope. And truly....that brings me love and happiness in return. What more could I ask?

Growth

From this....
to this....

to this....

to this....

And boy is it delicious! My little zucchini plants are going to town and we are enjoying lots and lots of garden fresh zucchini this summer. We grilled some up with dinner last night - here's the recipe. It's definitely a keeper - the only thing we did different is we cooked the zucchini on foil and we added a little bit of salt and pepper. Yum yum yum.

GRILLED GARLIC PARMESAN ZUCCHINI
  • 3 zucchini
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  1. Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat, and lightly oil the grate.
  2. Cut the zucchini in half crosswise, then slice each half into 3 slices lengthwise, making 6 slices per zucchini.
  3. Mix the butter, garlic, and parsley in a bowl, and spread the mixture on both sides of each zucchini slice. Sprinkle one side of each slice with Parmesan cheese, and place the slices, cheese sides up, crosswise on the preheated grill to keep them from falling through.
  4. Grill the zucchini until the cheese has melted and the slices are cooked through and show grill marks, about 8 minutes.

The Summer of the Book

I really focused on reading this summer. Not only because I had been missing it, but because it was a good influence on Miss S and because my stack of books to read is about to topple over. And that's just the stack next to my bed...there are three more bookshelves packed to the gills in the garage.I seriously read probably ten books this summer but of course these are the only two that come to mind right this minute:

Totally heartbreaking love story.

Great read!! The movie was great, but the book was SO much better!

And I'm halfway through this one:

I'm loving it so far! And I found a vintage MtAoFC at the thrift store the day after I started reading it! Of course I bought it:) That reminds me of something funny my brother said when we were in Vegas. I don't remember what we were talking about but I said something like "Oh I love vintage _______ (I don't even remember what I said)" and my brother, Chad, Mr. Always So Quick on His Feet said "Umm you love vintage anything." Touchee Chadwick!

Swappy Blocks

I think I've mentioned before I'm part of a Quilt Block Exchange Group on flickr.....I'm getting a nice collection of blocks....I've requested red, black and white the last few months and these will become part of an AWESOME red, black and white quilt I'm making Miss S for Christmas. I think it will match the little Twlight theme she has going in her room perfectly. The ladies in my group ROCK and they are all so amazing.

Probably just two more months of red, black and white blocks and I'll be ready to put the quilt together:):) I'm so stinkin excited about it!
