Prayers for Los Alamos

Our beautiful town of Los Alamos is on fire. Los Alamos is one of our favorite places to visit - it's about 2 hours north of Albuquerquer - a bed and breakfast we have stayed at before burned down in the last big fire there of 2000. As of today the fire is only 3% contained - please keep Los Alamos, its residents and the fire fighters in your prayers.

Poor Poor Dryer

Our dryer pooped out the day we left for Vegas...we ordered a new one on Saturday but we are not having it delivered until July 7....so here's the little system we improvised until then. We strung a long extension cord through the garage and have the clothes drying on that, as well on every flat surface in the house. What's hilarious is the clothes dry faster on this improvised line than they ever did in our old dryer!! It's a little hilly billy, and a whole lot of white trash but it gets the job done:)

We are leaving town this evening to head to San Antonio to visit my sister and her family for a week - see you when we get back!!!!

Vegas Part 2

Some of you know that my Dad lives in Henderson...we took advantage of being in Vegas and had breakfast with my Dad and Step-Mom Friday morning at House of Blues. It was delicious!!! The food was great, the decor was awesome and we had a lot of fun visiting for a little while. Dad and Jan recently submitted their paperwork to go on a mission for our church and we are all anxiously awaiting their call to see where they are going:)

My beautiful Miss S:

My dad: He seriously can't take a picture with his eyes open...
All of us at breakfast. I love how baby Elijah is hamming it up for the camera:)

And I totally think my dad looks like Anthony Bourdain - don't you?? What's funny is they have similar mannerisms and the same laugh!!

Vegas Part 1

I took a short little trip to Vegas last week - left New Mexico at 8:45 pm on Wednesday night and returned to Albuquerque at 4:30 am on Saturday morning. Kudos to my brother Chad for driving us there and back..he is a stud! It was a short, crazy, hectic trip but totally worth it. My mom and her sweetheart of 8 years got married on Friday!!!

Before the wedding festivities on Friday we spent Thursday catching up with each other, visiting with cousins we hadn't seen in years and just having fun:

We took a quick trip to the Bellagio to see the gardens all done up for summer - this painting is made up of all living plants!! Amazing!!!

I wish I had a field of sunflowers like this in my backyard:

Polly's Run

Sunday morning we participated in Polly's Run - a local 5k run/walk benefiting pancreatic cancer. We ran and walked in memory of Michael's Opa who passed away of pancreatic cancer. Almost our whole office participated and we had so much fun!!!!!!

The office girls - we had official tshirts made with our Walther Family Law logo -

and Hubby and one of my co-workers placed!!! Hubby won 3rd place in his age group and Katie won 2nd place in her age group!! WAY TO GO!!! I'm so proud of you both:)

We plan to make participating in charitable events a regular thing. There are several great races coming up - hard part is deciding which ones to do!

Birthday Wishes

As many of you know, I've worked with the Cub Scouts at church for four years. This year I have the opportunity to attend Wood Badge and I am so excited to be going!!

Wood Badge is a scouting leadership program and the related award for adult leaders in the programs of Scout associations throughout the world. Wood Badge courses aim to make Scouters better leaders by teaching advanced leadership skills, and by creating a bond and committment to the Scout movement.

The main goals of Wood Badge are:

- Recognize the contemporary leadership concepts utilized in the corporate world and leading government organizations that are relevant to Scouting's values.
- Apply the skills one learns from participating as a member of a successful working team.
- View Scouting globally, as a family of interrelated, values-based programs that provide age-appropriate activities for youth.
- Revitalize the leader's commitment by sharing in an inspirational experience that helps provide Scouting with the leadership it needs to accomplish its mission.

So where do you come in?? Well, my Scout Pack is paying for most of my registration fee, but I will still need to pay some and also update and/or buy a new uniform and camping equipment. June is my birthday month and so I'm asking that instead of any birthday gifts, please make a donation to my Wood Badge Fund. I take cash and checks:) and gift cards to Sportman's Warehouse:):) In return you will have my love and gratitude (well you already have those so you'll get an extra dose of that) and I promise at least one totally goofy picture of me while at Wood Badge!

Thank you so much!!!

Thrifty Thursday

I took advantage of some alone time on Mother's Day weekend to hit up some garage sales....there wasn't too much that I couldn't live without but I managed to find a few things that had to come home with me....

I think I spent a total of $10 on everything pictured here -

A brand new Vera Bradley purse....

Gorgeous new drapes for our bedroom (Pier One) ...

And here's everything all together - the drapes, the purse, a new book for Miss S, some fun magazines, and a couple quilting goodies.

The Post That Lost Itself

I wrote up a great little post but it was lost the week that Blogger decided to take a mini vacation without telling any of us.

So - this is from about three weeks ago....

My first painted toes of the season!! Finally it's warm here in New Mexico - actually I think we skipped spring this year and went right from winter to 90 degree weather. I love these green sandals too.....though the next time I wore them to work I slipped and fell in the lobby cause the bottoms are so slick. Now I'm scared to wear them again:( But I love them - so I need to just take some sandpaper to the soles.

The whole purpose of this post was to show you the shirt I wore with those darling green sandals and jeans....

I took a $3 tshirt I bought at Target and jazzed it up - I chopped off the sleeves to make them elbow length, then used the leftover fabric to embellish the top.

Refashionista

LOVE it!! And it totally got me in the mood to make some new summer clothes. But I got sidetracked by the home improvement so I still have probably two weeks before I can really get sewing.

And welcome JUNE!!! My birthday month:) I'll be entering the final year of my thirties on June 19 :)
